Relays are electrical switches that are operated by electrical impulses with the primary function to open or close the circuit.
Types of Relays
There are various types of relays, namely:
Electromagnetic relays: The relays which operate on the principle of electromagnetic attraction are known as electromagnetic relays. It is a type of a magnetic switch which uses the magnet for creating a magnetic field. The magnetic field then uses for opening and closing the switch and for performing the mechanical operation.

Electronic relays: These relays are a type of an electronic switch that opens or close the circuit contacts by using electronic component without any mechanical operation. The relaying scheme here is used for the protection of the transmission line.
Non-latching relays: These relays are in a normally closed position and stay in this state without power. When power passes through the circuit, the relay switched to a normally open position by using an internal coil. This makes them useful for push-button applications such as keyboards.
Multi-dimensional relays: Multi-dimensional relay control systems with time delay are considered.
Thermal relays: These relays work on the principle of the thermal effect of electrical energy. It is mainly used in the low voltage squirrel cage induction motor and in low output rating DC motor.
